There's nothing more satisfying than Colourful Armchair Makeovers, and its' environmentally responsible too. I am always posturing about being ruthless over clutter, but, this absolutely never ever applies to furniture. I have sofas in my house that have been recovered so many times that they resemble a child’s pass the parcel. For me a good chair will always be a good chair even if it has long since been a blot on your carefully colour coordinated landscape. For me recycle, recycle, recycle.
In Dubai, we are tremendously lucky to have no end of resources that can reupholster furniture at minimal cost. If you don"t know of anyone, start with whoever makes your curtains.
I simply cannot walk past a fabric store (especially in Satwa and Meena Bazaar in Bur Dubai) without having a rifle through their end of lines. I particularly love the rich Indian jewel sari colours. Often these stores tend not to give you the Laura Ashley feel but if you focus on a colour palette and start bringing fabrics together on the same part of the colour wheel you can start to see a nice patchwork combination coming together.
Otherwise for your colourful armchair makeover, look for rich velvets, or embroidered fabrics. If the posh end of John Lewis is more your style, look out for bargain offcuts and cover to complement your latest scheme.
Dining chairs are so easy to upholster yourself. Often the first thing to get relegated to a second hand junk shop, you can pick these up quite cheaply
