When we started Ireland all I wanted was open fires. But the environment and sustainability have had a profound effect on building regulations and it seems thats not the done thing these days. In fact even the log burners came under super scrutiny. So I went manly for gas, having researched the most eco versions I could get in the market. Guided by the amazing Pauline at Natural Stone Fireplaces in Derry, we chose well.
I will eventually finish the surround in Omnia Dekton which is used a lot in Dubai but less well known in Ireland though you can get it. Amazing stuff and so versatile its a composite of quartz/marble, compressed at high temperature to thin sheets. This means you can cover almost anything in it, inside or outside.
