Tartan & Plaid and the Lovely William Morris

Tartan & Plaid and the Lovely William Morris

Could not write an interiors blog without at some point mentioning William Morris if only to say that I love him but he is no longer in my life. Have decided very much on a contemporary farmhouse theme and whilst I love the prints they have no place in my Irish home. So I had to be lead away kicking and screaming when I saw such an amazing array of prints, fabrics and wallpapers on offer locally. But no there is little pattern beyond the cushions and rugs for me this time.

It is hard though when creating warmth to stay away from tartan! Im obsessed with tartan I absolutely love it so it featured very highly on my want list for Ireland.

But alas I'm not Scottish, no kilt wearing celts in the family at all so going overboard would perhaps make it look too much like a haggis filled loch in the Glasgow mountains. I had to tone it down, which I indeed did by backing isome tartan with something entirely different. In the lounge I have quite a severe and dour black and grey tartan, backed with a Designers Guild Moody Floral which looks divine. Who needs matchy matchy! Stay tuned for the final result
